Cake Tryout 1

Woke up early today to get all the ingredients i need to make the cake (together with my mum! she's been a great help...answering all my questions: so is corn starch the same as corn flour? so is all purpose flour same as all purpose wheat flour? can i use honey if i can't find agave nectar? etc etc)

Before i started anything, i drank a really hearty bowl of soup...my mother's new creation! Mushrooms, radish and chicken, taste really sensational! haha! Oh and i ate rice too and vegetables...

Then the baking begins...

I gotta gotta get a new weighing machine....really, this old machine gives different reading everytime i change the position of the flour/sugar on the weighing plate.....haiz, i have to use argaration the whole time, too risky especially when it comes to baking cakes....

I made a horrendous mistake in the process......i was reading the recipe and it says "combine the flour, baking powder and salt....." then in the line below "add dry ingredients in the mixer and mix well..."

So i thought, "how about sugar and corn flour? so means the corn flour and sugar also add in?.......ya should be add in, they are all dry ingredients" so i went and combine ALL the dry ingredients together and mix!!!!! and then just before i pour the mixed batter into the dish, i saw "mix turbinado sugar with the arrowroot (corn flour), sprinkle the sugar mixture on top of the batter" yea......shit!

Mixture of egg whites, soymilk and honey

Moral of story: just follow what's written and don't assume.

Then i convinced myself to just baked it...because even if i sprinkle the sugar mixture on top, they'll still be combined right? (Right) Don't think it'll affect the last step much right? (Wrong)

The last step is pouring boiling water on the batter....and i think it's because of the missing layer of sugar, the water and the batter just did not really blend well there.....just a tad too sticky.

After about 50 minutes....the natural colour is so delightful.

And after about 4 hours of cooling!

Flipped the cake over and this is how it looks.....

My first time eating blueberries....they taste surprisingly good! not sour at all! and as for the cake...not bad too, well just that the bottom is a lil' sticky...

Alexa recommend us to put the cake into the fridge and have them the next day...so i'm trying that to see if that'll help.

I'm so gonna try this out again....hahaha
